The layers of a market view
1. Potential and saturation
Start with market-potential and saturation context across metros and smaller regions. A large market is not automatically an attractive market; the question is how potential compares with the current structure and your capacity.
2. Demographic context
Population, median income and share of residents aged 65+ add context to the service or product thesis. They are context, not a proxy for patient demand or clinical outcomes.
3. Network and ownership structure
Independent and DSO footprint can change the route to market, account ownership and competitive conditions. Derived organization groupings should remain labeled as derived, not presented as a legal ownership registry.
4. Clinic-level fit
Add services, technology, marketing activity, contact context and practice quality signals only after the market screen establishes where to look.
5. Momentum and snapshots
Rolling, incremental collection preserves dated history. Review-growth velocity and visible changes can add time context to a static market profile, but only where observations exist.
